About Silky Kitchen

Authentic Hunan Rice noodles and dumplings

Silky Kitchen is a chinese restaurant in New York, New York. It is listed at 12 John St, New York, NY 10038, which places it among the local businesses of New York that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under asian restaurant, chinese noodle restaurant, dumpling restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in New York; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in New York are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 2 days a week. Typical hours are 11 AM–8:45 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (917) 261-2102. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is silkykitchen.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 446 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese restaurant in New York and suggests consistent service.

New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around New York is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Fantastic Hunanese lunch spot, serving bowls and dumplings. I tend to go for Chairman Mao's braised pork or the hunan style beef. I usually go medium spice, their spice levels are no joke! Well worth a visit for a quick lunch in FiDi.

Don’t bother trying their noodle soupsβ€”they’re not good at all. It’s basically just a stir-fry dumped over rice noodles with a scoop of what they call β€œsoup.” Honestly, it barely counts as broth and has none of that rich, savory flavor you’d expect from a proper stock. My friend and I ordered different dishes, but they tasted almost exactly the same. The only real difference was the level of spiciness. It seems like they use the same seasoning and sauce for everything. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

This was so good! I've never heard of this place and just discovered it on my walk. I had the stir fried pork and bamboo shoots over rice. Generous helping. Bookmarked for future visits.
